RSI is creating a lineage of environmental stewardship and sustainability achievements. We used our “Brownfield to Brightfield” approach and knowledge of the Department of Energy (DOE) reindustrialization program to redevelop environmentally impacted parcels on DOE property in Oak Ridge, TN, as solar generating facilities. These solar projects help DOE revitalize cold war era assets in our community. We further evolved the concept into the "Solar Advantage" model for creating environmental sustainability attributes on industrial/business development sites by locating utility-scale solar power generating facilities on unusable land parcels. To date, we have 4.2 MW in solar generation either constructed or under development. This clean energy is enough to provide electricity for 462 average homes, equivalent to reducing 4,375 metric tons of CO2, or eliminate the emissions from 1,190 passenger cars. Our projects are using $8 million in private investment financing and $240,000 in state and federal grants.
