ES&H Specialist

The applicant shall support the evaluation and oversight of contractor programs related to Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), including the contractors’ adherence to policies and procedures, for work conducted on behalf of the Department of Energy (DOE) at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon, Ohio.  The applicant would act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the field of ES&H, work in a team environment, and provide day-to-day support to assist DOE.  As an ES&H Specialist, the applicant would enter into construction like projects, communicate both verbally and electronically with multiple personnel, and complete reports as directed for the team. The applicant would also apply knowledge of 10 CFR 851 for Worker Safety and Health at the DOE site.

Applicant minimum requirements:

  •  At least 5 years of experience in the field of Environmental Safety and Health

  •  Must hold the Board of Certified Safety Professionals’ Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification OR Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification with ability to take the CSP within 2 years

  • Completed a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Chemistry, or Engineering

  • Maintain the Ohio Department of Health Certified Asbestos Hazard Evaluation Specialist OR the Ohio Department of Health Certified Asbestos Abatement Supervisor

  • Ability to work with others in a Team Environment

  • Maintain or be able to obtain a DOE Security L Clearance

  • Ability to drive vehicles, walk long distances, and carry items up to 15 pounds

It is preferred the applicant have:

  • Completed a Master’s degree or other education in the field of Science, Chemistry, or Engineering
  • Have DOE experience specializing in the field of demolition and construction related activities
  • Have extensive knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101 - Asbestos
  • 24 / 40 Hour Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) Training
